Μήν Επισκέπτεστε Τσίρκο Με Ζώα

Anti Circus Campaign

GAWF believes that removing animals from their natural habitat by and forcing them to perform for our amusement is simply not acceptable. Circus animals are far from their natural environment, live in small barren cages with no environmental enrichment whatsoever and are taught humiliating unnatural behaviour. Elephants do not stand on stools in Africa or India and neither do tigers in the wild jump through hoops on fire. Furthermore, there is proof that methods used to train the animals are brutal. During the performance elephant trainers use goads disguised with tassels or a walking stick with a nail in the end forcing these majestic animals to perform these demeaning tricks. Other common training methods used include baiting, luring, withholding of food, or by direct physical force using whips, spikes, heat, muzzles, choke chains, or electric prods.

In recent years, many animal welfare groups have campaigned successfully against visiting circuses and circuses with performing animals are banned from performing in a number of municipalities.

GAWF and Animal Defenders International are organising a nation wide anti circus campaign due to be launched in March 2006.
